Karen Gutierrez

Karen Gutierrez is a Nurse Practitioner from the United States who joined The Breast Care Centre in 2024. She completed her Bachelor of Nursing Science in 1986 at The Ohio State University and her Masters of Science in 1997 at the State University of New York at Buffalo as a Nurse Practitioner in Family Medicine.

Karen focused her practice in surgical Breast oncology and became a board-certified Advanced Genetics Nurse in 2016 in order to provide rapid access to genetic consultation and testing for her patients. She has experience in the management of those at high risk of breast cancer development and is especially skilled in assisting newly diagnosed patients to understand and navigate the first few weeks and months of their cancer journey. As a breast cancer patient herself, she has both medical knowledge and personal experience of many of the treatment modalities that patients may need.

Karen is bilingual in Spanish and English and has experience in caring for multicultural populations. She has 20 years of teaching Spanish for healthcare providers at the university and medical school levels.

Karen is a member of the International Society of Nurses in Genetics, (ISONG), the Australian College of Nurse Practitioners, (ACNP), the Australasian Society of Breast Disease, (ASBD), and the Cancer Nurses Society of Australia, (CNSA). She enjoys playing golf and is a fan of a variety of Australian and American sports.

She has two grown daughters; one in Australia and one in New Zealand.
