About Dr Susannah Graham
Dr Susannah Graham is a specialist general surgeon with subspecialty training in breast surgery. She has experience and expertise in the use of oncoplastic techniques for the treatment of breast cancer.
Dr Graham prides herself on her ability to empathise with her patients. She knows that her patients’ quality of life and experience through treatment is intimately linked to their physical and emotional health. Her priority is to provide high quality, tailored care to patients in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team. Best care is founded upon effective communication and Dr Graham achieves this through maintaining excellent communication with her patients and their caring team, most importantly their GP.
After completing her medical degree with Honours at the University of Sydney, Dr Graham completed her surgical training and was awarded her fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons in 2015. During her training, she was awarded a full scholarship to complete a Master of Advanced Surgery at Macquarie University in Breast and Endocrine Surgery. Dr Graham then undertook a fellowship at St George Hospital in Breast and Endocrine Surgery in 2016. She was then appointed as the BreastSurgANZ Post Fellowship Training Fellow at the highly regarded Westmead Breast Cancer Institute, where spent eighteen months gaining extensive experience and training in breast surgical oncology and oncoplastic breast surgery.
APPOINTMENTS, RESEARCH & EDUCATION
Dr Graham holds Visiting Medical Officer appointments at Chris O’Brien Lifehouse (Camperdown), treating both private and public patients, and Kareena Private Hospital (Caringbah). She is also a full member of Breast Surgeons of Australia and New Zealand, the specialty society for surgeons treating breast cancer.
Dr Graham remains actively involved in research and continues to present her work and national and international meetings. Her research passion is engaging patients in clinical trials to improve health outcomes.
In addition to her clinical practice, Dr Graham is committed to educating junior surgeons and is the breast surgery education lead at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital Institute of Academic Surgery. She co-ordinates a Unit of Study for the University of Sydney Master of Surgery (Breast Surgery). Dr Graham regularly teaches in education sessions for junior medical officers and surgical registrars as well as coordinating exam preparation courses. She is also passionate about mentoring the next generation of female surgeons and surgical registrars.
